Steel Fire Doors

Fire Doors tested up to 6 hours

A fire door is a hinged door with a fire-resistance rating. Fire doors are used to reduce the spread of fire or smoke between separate parts of a building. As such, they play a crucial role in a building's passive fire protection system.

HVP can supply and install fire resisting doors with a tested rating of up to 6 hours for single door sets and 4 hours for double door sets (both with optional vision panels). These highly rated fire doors can be used when withstanding a rigorous fire situation is important as well as property protection.

Fire door ironmongery and hardware

With the exception of permanently locked doors, all fire doors must be fitted with automatic closing devices. Fire door closing devices must be capable of closing the door from any angle of opening. They should also be strong enough to overcome the resistance of a door latch. In a fire situation the door closer on a fire door can also be exposed to the fire. It therefore needs to carry a fire-rating equal to that of the door. Our fire doors come with fire-rated closers as standard.

A fire-door will only prevent the spread of fire if it is closed, which is why it's important for fire doors to be kept closed when not in use. Normally a self-closing device will be sufficient, but in some cases it can be inconvenient to always have to keep a door closed. In such circumstances, it's possible to install a fire door 'hold-open' device. Typically, this is an electromagnet that holds the door open in normal circumstances, but releases the door when the fire-alarm is set off or the electricity fails. The closer then causes the fire door to shut.
